War Horse at the National Theatre
The National Theatre's production of War Horse (based on the
novel by children's author, Michael Morpurgo) has been playing
to packed houses throughout November and December, and is
likely to continue into February.
Set on the eve of World War 1, and during the conflict, the
play concerns the quest of a farmboy - Albert - to be reunited
with his childhood horse, Joey - which was sold by Albert's father
to the army. But what makes War Horse such a stunning play is
the presence on stage of full-size "puppet" horses, which are so
realistic in their construction and
movement, the audience begins
to believe that they are
living animals.
Critically-acclaimed,
War Horse is one of the most
remarkable productions to be
staged in London in many years.
