Equine Ramblers launch petition
Support for legislation
that will allow the use of
a personal locator beacon
(PLB) to be legally used in
the UK has been taken up
by Equine Ramblers UK. The
group, consisting of longdistance
horse riders, have
launched a petition on their
website - the aim being to
improve the personal safety
of the rider. A spokesman
commented: "Any outdoor
adventurer who wants to be
rescued in an emergency, and
is out of mobile phone range
should seriously think about
adding their name to this petition."
More than 22,000 lives,
worldwide, have been saved
by the satellite system since it
was installed in 1996.
