Tregoyd Topper goes Down Under
Premium Cleveland Bay stallion, Tregoyd Topper, winner of the Cleveland Bay Horse Society's prestigious King George V Championship in 2007, has been sold by Colin and Margaret Green, of Tregoyd Cleveland Bays, in Wales, to Brenda Boaden, based near Perth, Western Australia.
Seven-year-old Topper is by the stallion, Cholderton Whitethorn out of Tregoyd Topsy, and the emotional decision by the Greens to part with their home-bred champion was not an easy one to make.
New owner, Brenda, hopes to breed pure and partbred Clevelands, and agreed to accompany Topper on his last leg of the journey, once he arrived "down under".
Quarantine
Topper's incredible relocation began last August, when he left his familiar surroundings in the Welsh hills and travelled to Newmarket for the regulation three weeks in quarantine, before being flown to Melbourne, Australia. However, in the meantime, a devastating outbreak of equine flu in Eastern Australia, where Topper was due to land and spend a further two weeks in quarantine, prevented all movements of equines in and out of the nearby states.
On 15th November, the second leg of Topper's journey started in earnest when he was transported to Heathrow and safely loaded onto a jumbo jet for his flight to the other side of the world. But more delays and restrictions followed, including a four week stay at Melbourne's Spotswood Quarantine Station.
Finally, after 20 weeks and one day from leaving his Welsh homeland, Tregoyd Topper's journey ended at his new residence on 19th December, just in time for Christmas!
