Scottish seminar leads the
way on competition care.
AN IMPORTANT one-day seminar held at the beginning of the Summer by the Scottish Equestrian Association provided a valuable opportunity for everyone involved in equestrian competition to learn how best “to keep competitive horses on the road”.
Owners and riders; coaches and vets; physiotherapists and farriers were all represented, as were the various levels of international competition, from riding club through to international dressage
and show-jumping. Quite
often, days are lost due
to injury and illness,
and the seminar provided
some excellent tips
on how best to promote the
health and
well-being of horses.
A series of “interactive
demonstrations” proved to be
extremely popular and informative.
These were led
by Christine Smy of
Hickstead Horse Feed,
and Liz Brisco of
Equine in Motion — Liz
concentrating on the
issue of equine sports
massage.
Andrew McDiarmid
MRCVS of the Clyde
Veterinary Group,
Lanark, provided an
expert view on the
diagnosis and
management of
lameness, whilst
cardiopulmonary
problems were
examined by the
University of
Edinburgh´s Safia
Barakza MRCVS.
